REALLY quick post about my first day

I'm going to make this super quick because I'm due to be at a dinner for my Mum's birthday in an hour and in the mean time I have to complete some "Strength and Weaknesses" sheet for my Clinical Facilitator and get into something other than my uniform. I thought my first ever clinical day needed a blog post though.

It was a bit of a stressful day, even though it was technically only orientation. Everyone (lecturers, tutors, other students) has been telling us for weeks to stop stressing about our first prac as we won't be expected to know much at all. I'm not sure if that is the case at the Aged Care facilities that other students are going to, but it certainly isn't the case at the Rehabilitation ward I've been allocated. The Clinical Facilitator seems to have a lot of expectations - based upon all the quizzing we had today. We even had a 45 minute medication calculation quiz that we had to do without calculations. Eek! I managed without the calculator but my brain definitely isn't so great with the off the top of your head calculations. I'm glad the assessed med quizzes let us use calculators. Our facilitator even admitted she was tough, but on the positive side she does seem very committed to making us better student nurses.

I'm sure the two weeks will be an incredible learning opportunity and I'll probably know more by the end of the placement than I would if I went somewhere else. My main fear tomorrow is dropping someone. All these fractures and amputations makes me anxious.

  1. That's what placement's are about. A good one will push you and develop your hunger for more.
Remember you can do no wrong during this time.
    Enjoy it.
